Daily Devotional: 11/22/2018 - SCRIPTURE SERIES PT. I (GM)
"No
one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with
Moses so I will be with you, I will never leave you nor forsake you."
Joshua 1:5
This is a
new series that I started back out towards the end of July, The Scripture Series. I was inspired after
going on an encouragement date with a sister from Long Island and one with from
our region. Usually at the end of these dates like the next day later or
whenever they have the chance the sisters will write a card. And because I am me
and I feel if someone gets me something I have to get them something in return,
so I decided to combine the love for art and Scripture into one. But then I was
like "BRAIN BLAST" why not make one for all the sisters in our campus
for an encouragement for the upcoming semester and year. That was how The Scripture Series was created and this is
only Part One with hopefully many more parts to come so we can encourage and
give sisters hope all across the world.
- Women have it hard no matter where they go or what they do. They lack equality in every aspect. They are constantly objectified and are constantly being taken advantage of. It is our job as men and as human beings to treat all these women with respect, love and the dignity they deserve.
- I am going to try and keep these relatively short, but if God leads long we go long. Going to throw some fun facts and some scripture and call it a day.
Here are a
couple fun facts for you, the first being a daisy is actually two flowers in
one. The (usually) white petals count as one flower and the cluster of
(usually) tiny yellow disc petals that form the "eye" is technically
another. The other fun fact is the color blue has a Biblical meaning
symbolizing heavenly grace.
This is
verse comes off of a story that we should all read and learn from. It is one of
the ones that we learn about as kids, but no matter how old we get it is
beneficial and encouraging (just like the rest of the Bible). This is on the
backside of Moses's death.
- Moses was the one that led the Israelites all the wall up to the edge of the Promised Land, but to unfortunate circumstances because of the Israelites he was not able to walk into the Promised Land.
- In the end someone else (Joshua) was to walk them into it, but because of both Moses and Joshua we are able to walk into the Promised Land our self. We are going to talk about the two sides of the story today, Legacy and Finishing.
What do you want to be remembered for? How do you want
to be remembered?
- My pastor (Ryan Erbe, the goat) the other week has us all close our eyes and had us think of what we would want others to say about us when we have passed.
- What is the legacy you are leaving behind for the next generation? Take a second and do it for yourself and write down what comes to you.
Who was
Moses?
By faith Moses's parents hid for three months after
he was born, because they saw he was no ordinary child, and they were not
afraid of the king's edict. By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be
known as the son of Pharaoh's daughter. He chose to be mistreated along with
the people of God rather than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin. He
regarded disgrace for the sake of Christ as of greater value than the treasures
of Egypt, because he was looking ahead to his reward. By faith he left Egypt,
not fearing the king's anger; he persevered because he saw him who is
invisible. By faith he kept the Passover and the application of blood, so that
the destroyer of the firstborn would not touch the firstborn of Israel. By
faith the people passed through the Red Sea as on dry land; but when the
Egyptians tried to do so, they were drowned. - Hebrews 11:23-29
Moses was
a man that led by faith and was led by faith. He is the one that led the
Israelites out of Egypt, through the wilderness and all the way to the doorstep
of the Promised Land. He was a man that went up to a burning bush, collected
the law of the land. A man that by faith turned a staff into a snake, by faith
brought destruction to Egypt with the help of God., through faith face the
hardships of others but overcame them all through the help of God.
- By faith he left a legacy and was a man remembered by his love, faith and obedience to God. These are pretty big shoes to fill.
This is
actually what Joshua had to do. Moses dies and one of the first things God does
is put Joshua in charge and then tells him he is the one to now lead them
across the Jordan River. Imagine that, the man that led you here (the one that
left this amazing legacy) dies and now you are in charge of all these people
and it is your job to finish the job. The job being bring them across the
river, which you virtually have no idea what is on the other side of.
- I do not know about you, but I would be a little sketched out, but God tell Joshua not to worry because he got him and he will lead him.
- And thing that Joshua does is insane (but easy), he obeys. He goes and trusts God. Something that we do not do as often as we should. We are so slow to trust and follow the one that gave us life and can and does so much for us.
God tell
Joshua that he will never leave him nor forsake him. In this chapter alone he
tells Joshua to be strong and courageous
three times.
- Speaking to myself as well, it is honestly just that simple. But we still do not do it. We are the ones that go on and make it difficult.
If you
think about it Joshua had pretty big shoes to fill, but we have it a little
harder. We have to fill the shoes of Jesus. Now that is a man that left a
legacy and a half and more. Just as Moses, Jesus left us with a mission (Then Jesus came to them and said, 'All authority in
heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of
all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the
Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And
surely I with you always, to the very end of age. - Matthew 28:18-20).
- We have it hard, but at the same time we have it easy. Moses was an amazing leader and example to follow, but Jesus was perfect. He was the perfect leader and the perfect example to follow. He did all things in the flesh and he conquered everything, even death, in the flesh. We have the best leader and the all the answers right in front of us in the Bible.
Just like
how the daisy has two flowers that make it one, we have more than one factor
that make us whole and give us a purpose to live the life. The life that is for
Jesus. Two of these factors is legacy and finishing. We have to leave legacy
worth following and we have to fulfill the legacy that Jesus left behind.
- We have to act like Jesus and we have to fill his shoes.
We are
able to go all things through him and with him. He is the one that give us the
power, strength, and wisdom. He will never leave nor forsake us, he is with us
until the very end of age.
- He is worth following because of his love, mercy and heavenly grace.
Lord,
thank you for all that you do. You truly are an amazing God. I pray that you
continue to guide us to be the men and women you want us to be. Give us the
strength and power to leave a powerful legacy worth following. A legacy that
reflects you. I pray that you continue to give us the strength, wisdom and
grace to fulfill your mission and to fill your shoes. I pray all this in your
son's glorious awesome name, Amen.
