Daily Devotional: 7/31/2018 - DIFFERENCE MAKER PT. III

"I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you." Psalm 32:8

Here is the cherry the Difference Maker sundae, Part III. Part I talked about why we have to be a difference maker. Part II in a short story talked about what holds us back and what we have to do in order to become a difference maker. Part III is about who we become a difference maker through.

The Book of Psalm is awesome, you can never go wrong with a Psalm. The writers of the Psalms (mainly David) are writing their prayers. They are shouting, crying out, and praising God. There are ones that are a couple of sentence long and ones that are pages long.

  • Psalm 117 is the shortest chapter in the entire Bible.
  • Psalm 119 is the longest chapter in the entire Bible.
  • Psalm 118 is the middle chapter in the Bible.
  • Psalm 118:8 ("It is better to take refuge in the LORD than to trust in humans.") is the middle verse in the entire Bible.

You can decipher that as you want (Trust in God and not in the world…), I will be into that full another time. But it also connects to what I am going to talk about today.

The Zondervan NIV Study Bible about Psalm 32:8-10 says, "A priestly word of godly instruction, either to David (do not be foolish toward God again) or to those who have been just been exhorted to trust in the Lord (to trust add obedience). Some believe that the psalmist himself here turns to others to warm them against the ways into which he has fallen."

  • Trust and follow, those are two things that we constantly have to do.

In life we have to constantly follow and trust God. It is going to happen, life is going to throw us some curveballs. The way that we act and the way we go about it makes all the difference. If we do not trust and follow God we may not only hurt our self, but others. If we do we may impact and better not only our self but others.

Jesus set the example on how to act in the world. He not only came, saw, and conquered, but he did all that while in the flesh. He did it looking like us and battling the same things that we do. He was a difference maker. He went against everything that was wrong. He broke boundaries and barriers. He followed God's law and set his own standards. He helped and healed anyone that needed it. It did not matter who they were.

Another example is Paul. He not only helped set the example of what to do, but also helped set the example of what not to do. Before he accepted Jesus into his life he did not accept people, he hurt them, he was not loving at all. After he accepted Jesus into his life he was on fire with the Spirit, he preached, he went outside of boundaries, he loved. He became a difference maker.

  • 1 Corinthians 11:1 says, "Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ." Here Paul tells the church of Corinth that they should follow his example, because he has Jesus on his side and he is following the example he set.
    • Philippians 4:13 says, "I can do all this through him who gives me strength."  Paul did not do this all on his own, he could not do it all on his own. He had to have God on his side, then he was able to do all that he did.

We have to have God and his help. We have to allow him to instruct and teach us. We have to follow his example.

God will send people in out life for a short time or a long time. He will send some to break you down, teach you, and love you. We have to learn form these people, we have to learn from everyone. We have to pick their brains. Knowledge, heart, and love are keys to being a difference maker.

Do all things through him who gives you the talents and strengths. Use it for his glory. Be the best difference maker that you can be.

Lord, thank you for your word and for all you do. I pray that you are able to open our hearts and minds to you. I pray you are able to guide us in our life to you. You are our ultimate goal, and we can do nothing without you. I pray that you allow us to be the difference in the world, allow us to be the best difference maker we can be. I pray all this in your son's name, Amen.
