Daily Devotional: 9/22/2018 - SCRIPTURE SERIES PT. I (AF)
"Have
I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be
discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go."
Joshua 1:9
This is a
new series that I started back out towards the end of July, The Scripture Series. I was inspired after
going on an encouragement date with a sister from Long Island and one with from
our region. Usually at the end of these dates like the next day later or
whenever they have the chance the sisters will write a card. And because I am me
and I feel if someone gets me something I have to get them something in return,
so I decided to combine the love for art and Scripture into one. But then I was
like "BRAIN BLAST" why not make one for all the sisters in our campus
for an encouragement for the upcoming semester and year. That was how The Scripture Series was created and this is
only Part One with hopefully many more parts to come so we can encourage and
give sisters hope all across the world.
- Women have it hard no matter where they go or what they do. They lack equality in every aspect. They are constantly objectified and are constantly being taken advantage of. It is our job as men and as human beings to treat all these women with respect, love and the dignity they deserve.
- I am going to try and keep these relatively short, but if God leads long we go long. Going to throw some fun facts and some scripture and call it a day.
Fun fact
number one, a sunflower head is made up of 1000 to 2000 individual flowers
which are joined at the base. Fun fact number two, the red stripes on the
American flag stand for courage.
In this
chapter the phrase "be strong and courageous" is repeated three times
(v. 6,7, and 9). Verse nine being the final reiteration (the above verse). With
verse seven saying "very courageous". This is right after Moses's
death and Joshua is being installed as leader over the Israelites. It is now
Joshua's job to lead them across the Jordan into the Promised Land.
- Imagine all of sudden being put in charge of that task. These are people that disobeyed not only Moses, but God on several different occasions.
- This is virtually an impossible task, but God tells Joshua, "do not worry I got this, just stay strong".
This is
what God tells us on a daily basis, "do not worry I got this, just stay
strong". He is able to handle everything, he is able to take on all
things. God is able to guide us to be the men and women that he wants us to be.
He is the only one that can handle all things, for he has created all things.
Sometimes
all we have to do is wait and be patient. Not all things are going to come at a
snap of a finger. Some prayers are answered years down the road. This life is
not on our time, but on his. Sometimes it is us that he is waiting for. He
knows when we will be ready.
- If he does not think we can handle it he will not give it to us.
There is
one thing that is constantly promised in the Bible, that is that God will never
leave us or forsake us (Deuteronomy 31:6,6; Joshua 1:5,9; Isaiah 41:10-13;
Matthew 28:20 and this is only the peak of the mountain. There are so many
more).
- Forsake means to abandon; renounce or give up on.
He does
not want us to fear or be dismayed. No matter how many times we mess up as long
as we comeback and repent he will bless us with the rewards of heaven.
- No matter what we do he will never give up or abandon us, for we are his children.
- An example is, the story of the prodigal son (Luke 15:11-32). This is about a wayward son who squanders his inheritance, but returns home to find that his father forgives him.
The head
of a sunflower is made up of 1000 to 2000 individual flowers which are joined
at the base. This is the same as the Church. There is countless disciples that
make up and form one head, one church, and we meet at one base. Jesus Christ,
our Lord and Savior.
Be strong
and courageous as the color red. Do not fear or be dismayed because he will
never leave you nor forsake you. He has this.
"And we know that in all things God works for
the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his
purpose." - Romans 8:28
Lord,
thank you for all you do. I pray that you continue to grow the Church, continue
to grow our relationship with you, and with each other. Fellowship is so
important I pray you put people in our lives that will help us grow in you and
with you. Give us the strength and wisdom to get going each day, and to trust
you in all you do. I pray all this in your son's name, Amen.
