Daily Devotional: 3/18/2018 WE ARE NOT ALONE
“Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.” James 1:12.
James 1 is one of the best things to read in the Bible when you are going through tough times. I constantly remind myself of all the teaching that James told us in the chapter. We will go through trials it is a given, but the way you go about them is what will help you grow. God did not create evil, but he will use it to test us and to help us grow; one of the biggest examples being Job. We are so much stronger than we think, God will never put too much in front of us that we will not be able to handle. He is there next to us the entire time, he is our Spotter. 2018 has been a rough year for me so far and it is only 3 months in, everything I had last semester seems like it is falling apart in front of my eyes. There are days that I run away from God and shut myself out, and there are others were I run into his open arms. I have fought my depression and anxiety on levels that I have no fought since I was in high school, I have had so many suicidal thoughts that it has made me cry myself to sleep. I have walked to class, showered, and laid in bed balling my eyes out. But for me, being able to write this devotional today is a victory since I am alive. I did not fall for the devil and perish my own life. I chose God. I chose victory. We are going to struggle yes, but sometimes we have to take up the small victories. There was a mini sermon that I heard that semester that talked about being in the desert (alla Matthew 4), for me right now I am in the desert the devil is tempting me with so many different things, but God is with me. I have his Word at my fingertips. I have his love and guidance. I have his voice. So no matter if I am in the desert for one more day or if I am in here for the rest of the year, God will allow this time to help me grow in myself, but most importantly grow in Him. Stand firm against what ever the devil throws at you today, go to God for help because you cannot cannot cannot, I repeat cannot do this alone. If you are in the desert, continue to fight through the sand filled winds that cut your face; when you fall and scrap your knees, stand up and wipe them. Embrace every scar, every bruise. This is your war story, this is your reminder of what you can do with God. Just remember you are not alone in this dark world. You have people like me, that will talk to you no matter the day or time. But most importantly you have God.
I pray for all those that need help. Guide everyone that needs help as they continue to fight the devil and his temptations, allow them them to fight and defeat them in all that they do. Help them grow in you and grow to be the men and women that you want them to be. I pray you continue to grow this army of believers as we bare arms in our fight against the devil. Continue to lead the charge. Allow us to stand firm in trial. Allow us to reach out to you and others for help because we cannot do this alone. Be with us Lord. Guide us in all our trials and tribulations. We love you. I pray you all this in your son’s glorious awesome name amen.
