Daily Devotional: 8/5/2018 - CANOPY

"felt like climbin' a tree; The higher it seems more cuts on my knees…Pride got me feeling like a leaf fallin' down; Canopy catching me 'fore I'm meeting the ground." Nobigdyl. - Tree Tops

Climbing trees is fun. It is everything a parent hates and a kid loves. It is against what they (the parents) want, most of the time you walk away with cuts and scarps on your hands and knees from the bark, and it is very dangerous.

  • You can seriously hurt yourself if you fall (and that is every parent's worst nightmare - their kid getting hurt.

There can be several reason why you fall.

  • You can slip (get caught up in the world and it's trap).
  • You can get caught up in pride (think you can do it all on your own).
    • Proverbs 16:18 says, "Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall."
  • You can be lacking focus (do not do your godly duties).

Kangaroos, who does not love them, they are so cool. One of the most known facts is that the joeys are carried around in the pouch. Here are some more fun facts about kangaroos:

  • They are only pregnant for 21 to 38 days, and can have up to four joeys at a time.
  • Joeys when born can be as small as a grain of rice and as big as a bee.
  • They are in the pouch to gestate (to develop) another 120 to 450 days.

When inside the pouch they are protected from the outside world. They can feed on the nipples of the mother. The joey does everything in the pouch (including using the bathroom). The joeys literally do everything in the pouch, even use the bathroom. It takes females 14 to 20 months to mature, and 2 to 4 years for the male (really not surprising, us males need a little more marinating to be awesome, but all great things come to those are patient. And how Jesus: those who are first will be last and the last will be first).

  • The pouch is there home. It is the place they go to when they are scared and need to be comforted. It is there safety net.

Hammocks, if you have never been in one I feel sorry for you. Hammocks are cool to be in, it helps you connect with nature and all God has created. In a hammock you get to just lay there in a body sized blanket hanging (however high you want to go) above the ground. It is even cooler with a bunch of friends, one right on top of the other.

  • Just imagine being a in a cocoon, nice and warm about to be turned into a butterfly.
  • Hammocks are the human pouch. They protect you from the world and all its troubles. While in the hammock you are trusting God to keep you safe above the ground while he allows you to rest and be free from your worries. (Disclaimer: do not try to go to the bathroom in a hammock it will not be good for you or the people below you.)

Sometimes chilling in the trees and hammocks can be dangerous, some places have canopies (a safety net so you do not hit the ground and get seriously hurt). This is what God is, our canopy, our safety net. He is always there for us to keep us safe even when we become prideful and do not think we need him. He is still there to catch us, he never misses.

  • He is like any good parent. He wants the best for us, he wants to have fun. He is there for us when we fall, he is there to catch us. He is there through every scarp to broken bone we suffer while walking in the world.

Whether we fall like a leaf or like a boulder, God will always catch us before we hit the ground.

Lord, thank you for all you do. You truly are an amazing God. I cannot thank you enough for being our canopy, for being our rock, and for being our Lord and Savior. You never miss, and are always right. You are the bandage for every scrap and the cast for every broken bone. You are the healing love hand that is always watching over us. I pray that you cut the pride out of our life. I pray you give us the wisdom to keep focus. I pray that you wipe every spill to keep us from slipping. You are our safety net and we would not be able to live without you. I pray all this in your son's name, Amen.
