"No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it." Hebrews 12:11

Nothing scares a kid more than knowing they did wrong. They are scared because they know they are about to get in trouble. Getting in trouble can lead to a lot of things. The parents can scold them, they can hit them, they can put them in time out, or even sometimes the worst one nothing at all. We all have heard our parents tell us stories of them being disciplined at a kid. They always tell how we are lucky that they are not as mean as their parents were (and it will probably be the same when we have kids). My parents would tell me stories of how my grandparents would get the belt out or my mom's favorite the wooden spoon. My mom would tell me all the time how my grandmother would get the wooden spoon and break it over their butt. Now a days discipline has lost its art. Parents are being too soft on their kids, this leading their kids to be more likely to do more bad things. Discipline is not a bad thing. At the time, it sucks, do not get me wrong. But in the end it is only making us better. Once we were disciplined once for doing something bad, most of the time we thought twice about doing it again or doing something similar. God is the same. God disciplines us all the time. It is the only way we will learn. If he did not discipline, this world would be a mad house, it would be worse than it is already is. God is our Heavenly Father, he cannot come down and hit us with a wooden spoon, but he can take away things just as easily as he can give us. The old saying our mothers always say, "I brought you in this world and I can take you right out." Discipline is something that is very beneficial. Like I said you will think twice about doing it again, and also you learn and grow stronger. You learn and grow stronger, but knowing your limits and knowing what you can and cannot do. With knowing all this, you can focus more on what you can do, other than what you cannot do. It limits your distractions. There is so much scripture that talks about the benefits of discipline. There is so much in the book of Proverbs that talks about discipline. If you think about it, the Bible is a book of discipline. It is a book that is sharper than an double-edge sword and is meant to cut us at the heart. It is also meant to show us how to live, to show us right from wrong, it is meant to show us the limits and boundaries of life; just the way discipline does.

Lord, thank you for disciplining us. Thank you for the opportunities to not only learn from you daily, but every one that is around us. I pray that you are with us helping us learn from our daily disciplining. Help us grow in you and grow to be the men and women you want us to be. In Jesus's name, Amen.
