Daily Devotional: 8/8/2018 - HIS
"For
to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain." Philippians 1:21
This world
is not ours, this life is not ours. We live this life for God. We should not
being living this life in order to
please people and the world, we have to be living for God. Each day he wakes us
up is another chance to be the light in the world. He died on the cross in
order for us to live the life we have now.
Romans
12:1-2 says, "Therefore, I urge you,
brothers and sisters, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God - this is your true and
proper worship. Do not
confirm to the pattern of this world,
but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test
and approve what God's will is - his good, pleasing and perfect will."
We are
called to do a lot for the glory of God. One of the things that we are called
to be is a living sacrifice (v.1). This is holy and pleasing to God.
- Philippians 3:7-11 says, "But whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ - the righteousness that comes from God on the basis of faith. I want to know Christ - yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, and so, somehow, attaining to the resurrection from the dead."
- God is going to give us some things in order to see him. There are things and people in the world and our life that blind us from seeing the Light, the one true glory.
- We give up our eternity for temporary bliss (WHATUPRG - Aquafina). Nothing of this world is going to follow us to heaven. Everything starts over, we are all the same when it comes to the Promised Land. We are all on the same playing field.
- Whatever of this world that we lose is a gain in to Christ. We get to see him more, it will free up time for him.
- Nothing is greater than knowing and being one with him (v. 8-9).
We cannot
conform to the patterns of the world. The world is full of darkness and you
have to choose where you are at.
- 1 Peter 2:9-10 says, "But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy."
- Everyone is either in the darkness or in the light. We have to have a renewing mind set and fixed on Jesus.
When we
get baptized we are made new again we kill our old self and end our old ways.
- Romans 6:1-5 says, "What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? By no means! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we will certainly also be united with him in a resurrection like his."
- We buried our old self and ways and were resurrected with Jesus.
- Colossians 2:11-14 says, "In him you were also circumcised with a circumcision not performed by human hands. Your whole self ruled by the flesh was put off when you were circumcised by Christ, having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through your faith in the working of God, who raised him from the dead. When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross."
- When we were baptized we were born again and made new through Jesus. We were forgiven of our past. We were set free from the chains and pit of this world.
Everyday
is a new battle but Jesus paved the road for us. If we were baptized we killed
our old self and old ways for the gain and acceptance of Christ Jesus. We have
to live daily for him and his glory.
And whatever you do, whether
in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God
the Father through him. (Colossians 3:17)
I want to
give a quick shoutout to sister of Christ of mine. I was suffering from some
writer's block and she wrote a devotional on basically the same topic. She has
an amazing blog that talks about Twenty One Pilots and turns their songs into
Bible Studies (which is the greatest band of all time). Go check it out, you
will not be disappointed.
Lord,
thank you for all you do. Thank you for sending your one and only son to die on
the cross in order for us to live a life. I pray that you continue to help us
grow in you daily. We live this life for you and you only. We killed our old
self and old ways in order to live a life for you. I pray and thank you for all
you do in your son's glorious awesome name, Amen.
