Daily Devotional: 5/29/2018 - SUBMISSION

"Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee you." James 4:7

The Bible talks about submission a lot. There is about a hundred different verses that talk about submission. Submission is defined as the act or fact of accepting or yielding to a superior force or to the will or authority of another person. We have to and are called to submit to God and his authority. He is the ultimate ruler in our life.  He knows what is best for us every time, whether we ask for it or not. God knows if something is good for us or not, even if we want it, if God does not think we can handle it or that it is not good for us then he will not give it to us. There is no point in fighting him. We can never get close to matching his strength, we will lose every time. The harder we fight, the father we go away from God. We grow further away from his love, grace, mercy, guidance, and wisdom. This is not what God wants for us. The further we go away from God, the harder life gets. We grow weaker, we become more vulnerable. When we become vulnerable to the wrong things we can get caught up in the world, get caught up in its darkness. This is when it is easier for the devil to get a hold of us. If we submit to God and his will life will become a lot easier. We will become prosperous in the eyes of the Lord. We will get stronger and more ready for our daily battles. We will be protected by the love of God. We are able to be on the full armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-18). God will be by our side, he will be right on the front line with us. When we have God on our side nothing can stop us, he gives us the strength to be able to get over any obstacle. When we submit to God, the devil will not be able to get a hold of us, it gets easier to resist the devil and all his temptations. When the we submit to God it is out of love, and not our fear. Submission to God is the same way you submit to a parent. Your parent knows best. They know how to do things that you still have to learn. They love you unconditionally, they will stop at nothing in order for you to have the best life possible. God is the same. He knows better (than our parents). He knows all things, he know what is best for us (even if it is something that we want). God wants to make our paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6 says, "Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight." His light is stronger than anything in the world. We have to follow his Word. His word is the light to our path (Psalm 119:105). God wants nothing but the best for us, and he will stop at nothing in order for us to have the best life. Submission to God is also out of fear, but it is not the your traditional fear. It is not the fear that you get when you are watching a scary movie or walking down the street late at night, but it is a fear based off of trust and love. Submission to God is not the same as a submission of a slave and a master, but more of a teacher and a student. We have so much more to learn and he knows all things, he knows how to give us the best life. The fear we have for God is the same fear we have for our parents. It is out of love. We do not want to disappoint them, we do not want to get in trouble. We want to make them proud. God is our Heavenly Father and wants the best for us all the time.

Lord, we submit to you. We give everything up for you. Everything we have in this world is nothing to the treasures that await us in heaven. We give you our money, our job, our car, our friends, our family, our time, we give you our life. It is all yours. This is not our life, but yours. This is not our body, but yours. Make our paths straight. You died on the cross for us, we will follow you and give you everything. You show reckless love. Build our life. I pray all this in your son's glorious awesome name, Amen.
