Daily Devotional: 5/23/2018 - ON THE TABLE
"For
the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. It teaches
us to say "No" to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live
self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age." Titus
2:11-12.
The Contemporary English Version (CEV) states in verse 11, "God has shown undeserved
grace by coming to save all people." Everything God does for us is
really undeserved, we are constantly sinning against him and he doing
everything he tells us not to. God came and sent his only son to this earth to
save all people. God came in human form to face the same things we face and to
show us how to get through it all and what to do. Jesus was the perfect example
for us. This shows his undeserved grace and his unconditional love towards us.
God came down in the flesh to live like the flesh. This shows vulnerability, he
was vulnerable enough to come down and be the living example instead of just
telling us. This is why I am unashamed of the Gospel. Romans 1:16 is one of my
favorite verses which states, "For I am
not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation
to everyone who believes." Romans 1:16 and Titus 2:11 talk upon
salvation. God brings and offers salvation to everyone that believes. God does
not discriminate. The one key point to this is that he "offers," God
gives us the choice to believe or not to believe. It is on us in the end, God
wants us to choose him and believe. The one thing to remember is that yes
everyone can be saved and can be granted salvation, it is earned. Salvation is
not free. We have to believe in Christ, we have to live and be like Christ. Jesus was the living
example for us. He taught us how to live and we have to follow his example
daily. He taught us how to say "no" to the world, he was tempted and
was persecuted the same way we are daily. He showed us how to be
self-controlled, upright and godly. This was God's intentions when he sent his
one and only true Son to us. We constantly have to learn from our past and the
past of others. That is includes, but not limited to, all the apostles,
prophets, and people of the Bible, and even the elders in the church and our
families. We have to learn from their successes and failures. You have to learn
from yours as well. Have to figure out what triggers them. The Bible is our
teaching tool, it is history. John 12:47-50 talks about how Jesus did not come
to this world to judge it, but to save it. In verses 48 and 49, it talks about
the ultimate judge, and that ultimate judge is the Word of God. The Word is the
final judge, we have to make it our standard to living. One thing to think of
when going at the Bible is think of the acronym B.I.B.L.E. (Basic Instruction
Before Leaving Earth). The Bible is our playbook that was written by our head
coach, God. Even Jesus ran the plays in the Bible, he knew it front to back, he
eat, slept, breathed the Word; he ran the plays perfectly. The Bible is a
basically a cheat to life. It is like the teacher giving you al the answers to
the final exam on the first day of class. You have all semester to study them,
you have no excuse to pass with an A. You are going to get answers wrong,
because we are not perfect but we can still get an A. Acts 17:10-12 talks about
the Bereans, how they interacted with the Word. They went at it with eagerness,
examined it daily, and read it everyday. This is what we have to do to. We have
salvation on the table right in front of us, we just have to take it. We have
to be equipped and knowledgeable with the Word. Jesus was, and we have to live
and follow his example.
Lord,
thank you for waking us up this morning. Thank you for all you do for us. We
are undeserving of your love and your grace. We sin daily and fall daily, but
you continue to be with us no matter what. You love us during our ups and our
downs. I pray that you continue to be with us and put a guiding hand over us in
order to follow your word and your example. In Jesus's name, Amen.
