Daily Devotional: 5/17/2018 - JESUS IS THE MAP

"Whoever pursues righteousness and love finds life, prosperity, and honor." Proverbs 21:21

Righteousness is defined as the quality of being morally right or justifiable. Love is defined as an intense feeling of deep affection. These are the worldly definitions, in a biblical aspect to simply define both of them is saying, Jesus. Jesus was the most righteous and will always be the most righteous person to ever live. He lived the most righteous life, he did everything right, he never did wrong; he was perfect. He also show the ultimate sign of love. He did this by being crucified. He did not die on the cross for himself, but he did it for us. He died in order for us to be forgiven of our sins, to have eternal life in heaven, and also so we can have a second chance at life. This verse says that if you pursue righteousness and love you will find life, prosperity, and honor. The best and only way to do this is to follow Jesus. Jesus is our map and guide for our best life. He was the perfect example on how to live life. God sent him just for that, he showed perfect love, grace, righteousness, and mercy. The one thing that people forget and look over about Jesus is that he lived this life, too. He was God yes, but he was also "human." He constantly went through struggles, he was constantly tempted, he was constantly asked questions, and he was constantly persecuted. There was literally hundred of high end people on the mission to capture him and kill him, because of what he was saying and because he was so powerful. The most amazing and encouraging thing is that Jesus was able to overcome it all, he never fell, he overcame everything with perfection. Several times in the Gospels Jesus told people that they should follow him, and if they followed him they would be immensely blessed. Just to name a few, Matthew 4:19, Jesus told Peter to follow him and he would send him out to fish for people. Luke 5:59 says, "He said to another man, 'Follow Me.'" John 12:26 says, "Whoever serves me must follow me; where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves me." Matthew 16:24 says, "Then Jesus said to his disciples, 'Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.'" If we follow Jesus was have to give up everything, we have to trust him in all that he has planned for us. God has set the path for us, we just have to follow it (Proverbs 16:9). The best way to follow the path and make sure we are walking straight is follow one of Jesus's examples; that is reading and being in the word constantly. We have to always be ready with knowledge of the Bible and what it says. Psalm 119:105 says, "Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path." The word is the light, it is the fire burning in our hands. The word is Jesus (John 1:1-5). Jesus said "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life," (John 8:12). Jesus is the light, he is the light to this world, he is the fire in our souls. The one verse I keep using a lot is Matthew 6:33, which says, "But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well." His kingdom is full of righteousness and love, once we seek it and put it first, we will find life, prosperity, and honor. Life is hard, do not get me wrong, boy do I know that it is hard. There is going to be bumps in the road, you will fall, but you have to get back up. We have to acknowledge and follow him, and once we do that life will be easier. Getting up will be a breeze, because he is the first one to reach out his hand to lift you back up. He will make your path straight (Proverbs 3:6). Jesus was tempted and persecuted, follow his example. Go at everything with a good heart and steady mind. Protect your heart above all tings, since everything flows from it (Proverbs 4:23). Seek his kingdom and put him first above all things, and get ready for your life to prosper. The honest is about to flow.

Lord, thank you for all you do. You truly are amazing God. I pray that you are with us helping us in all you do. Making our paths straight. Allow the light to burn and shine bright in our life. Give us the strength and wisdom to put you and your kingdom first above all us. Be with us. Lord, help us bear our cross. In Jesus's name I pray, Amen.
