"Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; do not fret when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their schemes." Psalm 37:7.

One of the first things that came to mind when writing my notes for this devotional, was the scripture from 1 Corinthians 10:13. Many people just read this verse and think that God will not let the devil tempt them with more than can handle or just take the negative aspect of it, meaning that if we cannot handle the obstacle or challenge God will not let it be a burden. This is all true, but it is the same for success. I have touched on this briefly before, but God will also not let us have success if we cannot handle it. This was brought up to me during a conversation with a brother in Christ. It was during a time when I was not getting a lot of playing time and when I was getting the time I was not getting the success I wanted. He brought up the point where at times I can be very prideful and feed off of the way people look at me and perceive me. One the main purposes of life is to glorify God in all that we do. We cannot doing anything without the strength of God, we cannot do anything on our own. Sometimes when you have success, you let it get to your head and think that you do not need God. Sometimes God has to bring you down, to build you back up. You have to see what feels like to be at the bottom before you go to the top. Jesus tells us during the Sermon on the Mount, "But first seek his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well," (Matthew 6:33). Once we seek his kingdom and put him first above all things, everything will fall into place. Proverbs 16:1 says, "The plans of the heart belong to man, but the answer of the tongue is from the Lord." We can dream, we can pray, we can want everything, but everything relies on God. God is the director, he is the one that allows things to happen or not happen. He sees everything and knows of everything before it happens, if it is not going to be for our benefit or for his glory he will not allow it to happen. It is all about his will, not our. Even Jesus knew this when he prayed, "Yet not as I will, but as you will," (Matthew 26:39). So during the hard times we can not be anxious about anything, but always by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present our requests to God (Philippians 4:6). Success on this earth does not mean anything without God. There are several times were Jesus talks about how we have to give up everything in order to enter the Kingdom of God. The poor, needy, and children will be the first to enter the Kingdom, it will be easier for them rather than the rich. The rich will try to hold on to and rely on their riches, and not trust in God. There is that old saying where you cannot take your money to the grave with you. No matter what you do now on this earth it will mean nothing when you enter the Kingdom of God. Everyone is on a level playing field. No one is greater than the next. Jesus says in Matthew 19:30, "those that are first are last." Trust and patience in God is a major key to success and happiness. Proverbs 3:5 says, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding." we cannot rely on ourselves for everything. Nothing is more powerful than the power God. Nothing is impossible with God, and nothing is possible without God. Romans 8:28 says, "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his plan." No matter if we are in season or out of season; no matter if we are on the up or on the down God is with us. He is allowing every trial and tribulation to happen for our benefit. All things work together and will work out in the end. Joshua 1:9 says, "Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go." We have to stay strong during the times of need. He will never forsake us. He is there always, whether we feel his presence or not. We have to wait patiently and trust in God. All things will work together in the end. Do not be discouraged by the success of others. No riches, success, or fame is greater than the riches and treasure you will receive in heaven. The love of God is greater than any worldly love, no one will love you more and unconditionally.

Lord, thank you for all that you do. Thank you for every trial and tribulation. I pray that you are with us, putting a love and guiding hand over us. Put it over our hearts and our mind, allow us to be calm and focused. Guide us in every step of the process. Allow every trial and tribulation to be for not only our benefit, but for your glory. Allow us to be patient and filled with wisdom. Release all our doubts, empty us of the bad and fill it with yourself. I pray all this in your son's glorious awesome name, Amen.
