Daily Devotional: 4/5/2018 SHARING IS CARING
"And do not
forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is
pleased." Hebrews 13:16
We are taught at a
young age that "sharing is caring." This is a simple phrase that we
are taught in pre-school or by our parents when playing with our little or
older siblings. For me it was always yelled at us at Camp Grandma and Grandpa
during the summer. During the summer myself along with 11 other grandchildren
piled into my grandparents house for the day. Two of my cousins lived two
houses down so we bounce from house to house, and play outside. Least to say we
were not the caring and gentle of kids. We are a very competitive family, like
a simple game of kickball would have at least 2 separate fights over rules that
would sometimes turn into real fights; and I myself was not innocent either.
One place our grandparents would always yell that "sharing is caring"
would be in the computer room, after running around outside all day it would be
nice to come into the cool house and just chill for a little. We would split
between the living room and the computer room. And of course kids being kids
and because we were little monsters we would fight over computer time. Everyone
wanted to play Club Penguin or a game on Miniclip (if you didn’t play those as
kid, I don’t know if I should applaud you or feel bad for you). We would throw each
other out of the chair, we would forcibly take the keyboard, you name it we
probably did it. Of course, my grandparents weren't having it. They would put
us in time out or would remind us of the sharing is caring quote before
anything got too serious. This is the same with Jesus. Jesus wants us to share;
he wants us to share his love, his grace, his mercy, ourselves, our time, and
our knowledge. Jesus preached so many things, two of the things that we
stressed the most was love others and spread the gospel. That was the main
purpose of his ministry. Two things, sharing his love and sharing the gospel.
Just remember the times when people shared their love with you, shared their
toys, shared their testimony; remember how good it felt, how you were moved.
You can be that person. When someone shares with you it is one of the most
satisfying feelings. You know why? Because they sacrificed something. They
could have kept it all to themselves, but they sacrificed their joy and their
happiness for you. They made themselves vulnerable. They made themselves
vulnerable for you. This is the same thing that Jesus did for us. He shared the
guidelines of how to live, he shared the grace of God, he shared the mercy of
God, he shared his knowledge, and mostly amazingly he shared his life. Jesus was the ultimate sacrifice
and died for our sins. He sacrificed his time and his being for us. He could
have easily said, "wow this world is dark, I'm just going to do me and keep
all this power to myself." But that is not what he did. He shared his love
and his power. He healed, he saved, and he forgave. Be like Jesus and share
your life.
Lord, I pray and
thank you. Thank you for all you do. I pray that you are with us, guiding us to
be the men and women you want us to be. Allow us to continue to share the
gospel all across the world. Help us be a movement. Give us courage to step out
of our comfort zone and share ourselves. Help us during the tough times when we
get persecuted and ridiculed. Allow us to answer hate with love, your love, the
most powerful sign of love. Allow us to continue to preach the message and
share your grace and your mercy; because sharing is caring. I pray all this in
your son's glorious awesome name, Amen.
