“For I command you today to love the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him, and to keep his commands, decrees and laws; then you will live and increase, and the Lord your God will bless you in the land you are entering to possess.” Deuteronomy‬ ‭30:16‬

This was verse was written in the Old Testament, but it was still relevant at the time of Jesus and it is still relevant today. This verse shows that the “word of God is alive and active” (Hebrews 4:12). No matter if it is written, yesterday or millions of years ago, the word of God can and will be used to cut us at the heart and will be used to mold us to be the men and women he wants us to be. During his ministry Jesus preached that we should always love the Lord our God (Mt. 22:37), saying this is the greatest commandment.  We have to put him and his kingdom first in all that we do. Once we truly put him and his kingdom first, all things will fall together (Mt. 6:33). They way he seek his kingdom first above all else is following the rest of the verse. We have to keep his commands, decrees and laws; without them this world would be a bigger mess than it already is. God gave us these laws for a reason, laws are not meant to restrict us and are not meant to hold us back. The laws are meant to help us grow as a person and grow closer to him. Without these laws we would become darker and darker, our life would be a waste, we would all end up in Hell and not with God in the end. God wants the best for us, he wants us to prosper, he wants us to grow as people, grow with each other, he wants us to help each other, he wants us to not only help our family but complete strangers. Jesus said the greatest commandment is to love God and the second greatest is to love our neighbor as we would love ourself (Mt. 22:37-39). Then once we do this we will live and increase, God will bless us in all that he does. Do not be discouraged if you messed up in the past or if you are still messing up. Paul was one of the biggest persecutors of Christians and then become of the greatest apostles to ever live. He would kill Christians for fun, he would go from town to town looking for people to torture and kill because they believed in Jesus. Then one day Jesus came and blinded him (Acts 9:3), then the rest was history. Look at the Israelites in the book of Exodus, God brought them out for slavery in Egypt. He allowed them to escape them safely, he promised them so much; yet they grumbled against him and Moses. They went against his word on countless occasions, making false gods and marrying outside of the community. Yet he continued to guide them and love them, and in the end he fulfilled his promises and blessed them immensely. So trust in God, love him no matter what and put his kingdom first; all things will work together in the end.

Lord, thank you for your word. Thank you for allowing it to God-breathed, and allowing it to be always alive and active. Your word is sharper than any double-edged sword. I pray that it cuts us at the heart and the soul. Allow it to mold us to be the men and women you want us to be. Guide us in the ups and downs. Putting a loving hand as we doubt, but continue to not give up on us. Blind us with your light that we are able to only see your grace and your glory. Bring us close to you that you are continually first in our life.
