Daily Devotional: 1/16/2019 - SCRIPTURE SERIES PT. II (LC)
"Blessed
are those who find wisdom, those who gain understanding, for she is more
profitable than silver and yields better than gold." Proverbs 3:13-14
This is a
continuation of a series that I started back out towards the end of July, The Scripture Series. I was inspired after
going on an encouragement date with a sister from Long Island and one with from
our region. Usually at the end of these dates like the next day, later or
whenever they have the chance the sisters will write a card. And because I am
me and I feel if someone gets me something I have to get them something in
return, so I decided to combine the love for art and Scripture into one. But
then I was like "BRAIN BLAST" why not make one for all the sisters in
our campus for an encouragement for the upcoming semester and year. That was
how The Scripture Series was created. We
are now on Part Two with one more part to come so we can encourage and give
sisters hope all across the world for days to come.
- Women have it hard no matter where they go or what they do. They lack equality in every aspect. They are constantly objectified and are constantly being taken advantage of. It is our job as men and as human beings to treat all these women with respect, love and the dignity they deserve.
- I am going to try and keep these relatively short, but if God leads long we go long. Going to throw some fun facts and some scripture and call it a day.
- The last series was all to sisters in the church (plus one very special woman outside the church). This series is dedicated to the people I call family, whether they be actual blood or women that help keep me sane at school.
Here are a
couple fun facts for you, the first being that the petals of the Iris droop,
they are called "the falls". The falls serves as a "landing
pad" for pollinators. Notice how the falls of the flower has bright lines
leading to the blossom's mouth. These serve as nectar guides, directing the
pollinators toward the nectar. The second being, blue is often used to decorate
offices because research has shown that people are more productive in blue
rooms.
Wisdom is
the quality of having experience, knowledge, and good judgement. Wisdom comes
with age. It comes with knowing and doing. Wisdom is obtained with everyday
life.
- A lot of people confuse intelligence and wisdom.
Intelligence
is something that is more in a sense natural (yes, it can still be obtained),
meanwhile wisdom is obtained. Wisdom is something that we have to work for.
Wisdom is deeper. Intelligence is about knowing other while wisdom is about
knowing yourself. Intelligence focuses on the tangibles and wisdom on the
intangibles. Intelligence has limits, meanwhile wisdom does not.
- Knowledge is the accumulation of facts and data that you have learned about or experienced. It is being aware of something and having information. Knowledge is really about facts and ideas that we acquire through study, research and investigation, observation, or experience.
- Wisdom is the ability to discern and judge which aspects of that knowledge are true, right, lasting and applicable to your life. It is also deeper; knowing the meaning or reason; about knowing why something ism, and what it means to your life.
Wisdom is
such a huge theme of the Bible. It is a wisdom based book. It is something if
you read it you will gain wisdom. 2 Timothy 3:15 says, "and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which
are able to make you wise for salvation through the faith in Christ
Jesus."
- People go around the entire world and spend their entire life trying to find a book that does this. The Bible claims that all you have to do is read it, for all the answers for all the questions.
We have
the source of wisdom at our disposal. It all starts and ends with God. Proverbs
1:7 says, "The fear of the LORD is the
beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction."
All we have to do is go to him. James 1:5 says, "If
any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all
without finding fault, and it will be give to you." We have to go
to him with confidence and knowing that God gives generously. James 1:6-8 says,
"But when you ask, you must believe and
not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and
tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the
Lord. Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do."
Psalm
119:105 says, "Your word is a lamp for my
feet, a light on my path." God will light up our path. He is the
Light in this dark world. He will not let us stumble and he will not give us
anything we cannot handle (1 Corinthians 10:13).
He will use his Light in order for us to see the obstacles in front of us. He
wants the best for us and give us all that we want. All we have to do is put
Him and his Kingdom first (Ecclesiastes
2:26/Matthew 6:33).
The Iris
has the falls of its petals in order for the pollinators to land on. It is sort
of a landing pad for them with bright lines that guide them to the center of
the flower where the pollen is. We have God. He sent down Jesus to live and
conquer the flesh. His death was the ultimate sacrifice for our sins. Everyday he lays down his hand as our landing pad as
we fall and fight the temptations and struggles of the world where his veins of
love, grace, and wisdom lead to his heart and salvation where we will spend
eternity in his love.
- Ask for his wisdom, he gives generously. He wants the best for us.
"Wisdom is not a product of schooling, but of
the life long attempt to acquire it." - Albert Einstein
Lord,
thank you for all that you do. You are full of love and grace, which you give
so generously. I pray that you continue to fill us with the wisdom to follow
and see you. There is none greater than you. Your word is the light to our
path, the path that leads right to you. I pray all this in your son's glorious
name, Amen.
