Daily Devotional: 9/24/2018 - SCRIPTURE SERIES PT. I (JY)

"What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ and be found in him." Philippians 3:8-9

This is a new series that I started back out towards the end of July, The Scripture Series. I was inspired after going on an encouragement date with a sister from Long Island and one with from our region. Usually at the end of these dates like the next day later or whenever they have the chance the sisters will write a card. And because I am me and I feel if someone gets me something I have to get them something in return, so I decided to combine the love for art and Scripture into one. But then I was like "BRAIN BLAST" why not make one for all the sisters in our campus for an encouragement for the upcoming semester and year. That was how The Scripture Series was created and this is only Part One with hopefully many more parts to come so we can encourage and give sisters hope all across the world.

  • Women have it hard no matter where they go or what they do. They lack equality in every aspect. They are constantly objectified and are constantly being taken advantage of. It is our job as men and as human beings to treat all these women with respect, love and the dignity they deserve.
  • I am going to try and keep these relatively short, but if God leads long we go long. Going to throw some fun facts and some scripture and call it a day.

A fun fact about the sunflower is that it can remove toxins, such as lead, arsenic, and uranium, from contaminated soil. They are a natural decontaminator of soils and have been used to clean up soil at some of the world's biggest environmental disasters, including Chernobyl and Fukushima. A fun fact about the color yellow is it is the lightest hue on the spectrum, the color psychology of yellow is uplifting and illuminating, offering hope, happiness, cheerfulness, and fun.

This verse is a verse that is constantly on my mind and one I have used quite a bit lately. This verse is something we as Christians and people of the world struggle with on a daily basis. We have so much stuff and we are not as grateful with that stuff, so we want and get more stuff. We forget at the end of the day this stuff is not our stuff and never was our stuff. This stuff will not follow and come with us to the life after.

We have so much stuff we do not know what to do with it. We are a stuff oriented culture. Where we have so much stuff that we do not what to do with it, but God forbid if we get rid or donate any of our stuff.

  • We even have designated sports for our stuff and will even pay companies to hold and help move our stuff. And they are not cheap at all.

We even hold our stuff to a higher standard than God. We will drops God faster than we will drop that addiction, toxic relationship, and material things. We spend more time playing video games than we will reading the Bible. We spend more money on coffee than we will give to the poor or the church.

  • We give up God in order to gain the next "big" thing.

Meanwhile it should be the other way around. We should be giving up our materials and our time for God. Nothing in this world is worth the value of God. If we lose something for the sake of Jesus it is a win not a lose.

  • Everything is garbage compared to the immense love and wisdom of God.

Sunflowers just like Jesus remove the bad in our life. It gives us room for so much more. The thing that is worth more than anything, God.

  • Sunflowers are used to remove the toxins of contaminated environments while the death of Jesus removed (forgave) the toxins (sin) in our life.

Yellow is an uplifting color that offers hope, happiness, cheerfulness and fun. Every time we "lose" something in the name of Jesus it should offer hope, happiness, cheerfulness and fun. For the love of Jesus is above all.

Lord, thank you for all you do. I pray you work your hands in our life. Remove the bad and fill us with you. Show us your grace. Allow every lose to be a win in your book. Allow every empty space that is created in our life be filled with you. This life is not ours. Every thing we have is not ours. Nothing will follow us. Allow it to be all for your glory. I pray all this in your son's glorious awesome, name.
