Daily Devotional: 6/28/2018 - FAVORITISM
"I
now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism but accepts every
nation the one who fears him and does what is right." Acts 10:34-35
The one great thing about God is he shows no favoritism, unlike what the devotional title says. He accepts all people, it does not matter the color of you
skin, what your gender is, what your age is, whether your poor or rich, or even
where your started from. Jesus lived this kind of lifestyle. He healed people
that were deemed untouchable by cultural standards. He talked with women, the
poor, the rich, the young, and the old. He stepped out of cultural norms on a
number of occasions. As long as you showed faith and feared the Lord you were
good in his eyes. He saw the best in everyone. God created us all to be
different, but to be equal at the same time. We come from the cut out of him
image (Genesis 1:27). Galatians 3:26-29
says, "So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, for all of you who
were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Gentile,
neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one
Christ Jesus. If you belong to Christ,
then you are Abraham's seed, and heirs according to his promise."
We are all one in Christ, is blood was
shed for all of us. We are all children of God. We are all saved by grace and faith. Romans 2:11 says,
"For God shows no partiality."
Partiality is defined as unfair bias in favor of one thing or person compared
with another; favoritism. God shows no bias towards anyone. He loves us all unconditionally, he sees no difference is
any of us. He wants us all to be our
best. He will leave the 99 in order to save 1 (Matthew
18:12), and it does not matter
who it is. Romans 3:22-24 says, "This
righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference between Jew and Gentile, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by
Christ Jesus." There is no difference between Jew and Gentile, the
same way there is no difference between White and Back, or Asian and Hispanic.
We are all the same, we are all children of God. We have all sinned and all
have and will fall short of the glory. All
sin is the same and no sin is greater or lesser in the eyes of God. We are all "justified freely by grace".
James 2:9 says, "But if you show
favoritism, you sin and are convicted by the law as lawbreakers."
Just as God does not show favoritism we should be doing the same God created us
all equal and he loves us all equal, he wants us to do the same. He wants
us to love our neighbor as we love our self (Mark
12:31). We are called to love our neighbor and everyone is our neighbor.
John 13:16 says, "Very truly I tell you,
no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one
who sent him." Status is an earthly thing. In the eyes of God and
in the Kingdom of God we are all the
same, we are all on the same level. All
God wants from us is to "fear" (love) him. He does not care who you
are, you are a child of God. He wants us to do right and live like him. He sent
the perfect example to live by and that is our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
We have to act like and reflect the image of Jesus. He wants us to glorify his
name. Jesus's blood redeems all, he
grants salvation to everyone who believes first the "Jew then the
Gentile" (Romans 1:16). Just like
our parents there is no favoritism between the kids, the same is with God. They
love us all unconditionally. We are
called to make disciples of all nations.
"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and
of the Holy Spirit." Matthew 28:19
Lord,
thank you for your love, for your grace, and for your mercy. Thank you for
creating us all to be equal. You created us from the cut out of your perfect
image. You show no favoritism, we are all same in your eyes. We are all your
children. Give us the strength and wisdom to show no favoritism to each other,
and treat each other they way you treat us with love, grace, and mercy. I pray
all this in your son's name, Amen.
