"The
Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in
spirit." Psalm 34:18.
Last year
I saw a post on Twitter that was labeled, "Finding Help in the
Bible." It named a bunch of verses that we can go to for courage, wisdom,
broken-hearted, when you are down, when you need a little extra loving,
everything (I will post it later). This verse was one of the verses that were
in the post. I remembering highlighting this verse and feeling a sense of
protection. During this time, I was going through a lot. I just started reading
the Bible and was only reading the Old Testament at the time so I really did
not know the love and history of Jesus, just the prophets. God's love is
everlasting and it is extremely comforting knowing that no matter what God is
there with us. Especially in our dark times God is there with us, even if we do
not feel him. There are people who depict God to be the ultimate, powerful, no
mercy God. But that is not true, yeah he is ultimate and powerful and he is a
crushing hand, but he shows more mercy, grace, and love than anything. Think
about it. We are natural born sinners. We sin daily, trying and not trying; it
is just natural and there in reality there is nothing that we can do about it.
God can easily just end it all right now, and just start over but he does not.
He chooses to give us life everyday. He chooses to give us a chance to repent
and make up for our sin everyday. And the most powerful sign of his mercy and
grace is the sacrifice of Jesus. Jesus is his one and only true son, and he
died on the cross for us. He died and suffered all he did in order for our sins
to be forgiven. Like I said God could have just wiped us off the face of the
earth and started over, but he didn’t. He sacrificed his Son for us, and in
order for our sins to be eternally forgiven. So when you feel like there is no
escape, when you feel like there is no hope (I have been in your position, I
have been minutes away from killing myself); just think again. Think about what
Jesus did. Think about the love that you actually have in our Heavenly Father.
He is there for us, no matter the situation. He is there when we feel him, and
he is especially there when we "do not feel him." God is always there
no matter the situation. He is there during our ups. He is there during our
downs. He is there while we are sinning and going against him. He is there when
we are praising him. He is there close to us. He is full of mercy and grace and
love. He saved us.
Lord,
thank you for always being there for us. Thank you for your love and your
endless mercy. We do not deserve the amount of mercy that you give us. We do
not deserve your love. But you give it anyway. Thank you for all you do.
Continue to guide us to be the men and women you want us to be. I pray we are
able to continue to grow and be with you in all we do. I pray this in Jesus's
name, Amen.
