Daily Devotional: 4/24/2018 TEBOW VERSE
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16.
The Tebow verse. Tim Tebow in 2009 was one of, if not the best, quarterback in college football. He led his University of Florida Gators to the national championship, where he played a career game. One of the most iconic parts of the game, besides the fact that he went off, was that he had a Bible verse written on his eye black, John 3:16. Because of this about 94 million Americans googled this verse. Tebow in several interviews and his book talks about this occurrence and his journey. I was blessed enough to actually hear him tell this story in person. He played the National Championship on 1/8/09, and exactly 3 years later, he played the Pittsburgh Steelers in the first round of the playoff while he was playing for the Denver Broncos (which was another career game - still remember it like it was yesterday). He did not realize it that it was 3 years later, he just went out and played his game, until after the game before speaking to the media his PR guy came up to him and told him that 3 years to the day since the National Championship. But that was not the kicker, the kicker to this was in this game Tebow threw for 316 yards, his yards per rush was 3.6, his yards per completion was 31.6, the ratings for the game was 31.6, the time of possession was 31.6. Tebow said, “someone people call it coincidence, I call it big God.” And this is exactly what it is, Big God. Another quote that a brother of mine always loves to say is, “coincidence is God’s way of remaining anonymous.” But this verse is more than just a football player, or about a football game; it is about a powerful amazing promise and gift. The promise and gift of eternal life. God sent his one and only true son to this earth for us. He sent him in order to live by example, and to die on the cross for us. He died on the cross in order for our sins to be forgiven. God doesn’t just love us, but he LOVES us and this is the perfect example. He could have easily just wiped us off the face of the earth, but he was like “no I’m going to make this work” and sent Jesus to be the example for us to live by and to be the sacrificial lamb in order for our sins to be forgiven. And all we have to do is follow the Word the best we can, and believe in Him. Once we do that we will have eternal life in heaven. Life is to short to not believe in God and live for him. If you have not already pick up a Bible and read his Word, embrace his promises, and his love. Read a good book like Tebow’s Shaken. Read about other people and their journey. We all have a story that is written, we just have to read it.
Lord, thank you like always for your word. Thank you for waking us up this morning, and blessing us with another beautiful day no matter where he are. If you gave us breath and there is no fire in the sky it is a beautiful day. Thank you for all you do, sending your son for us, for all the promises, for loving us even though we constantly fall short of it. Thank you for having mercy on us. Thank you for allowing us to have an eternal life with you in heaven, even when we do not deserve it.
