“Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners-of whom I am the worst.” 1 Timothy 1:15.
In this letter to Timothy, Paul wrote how to care and in concern of the church of Ephesus. Timothy was one of Paul’s close associates. While in prison Paul would send Timothy to go and greet people for him. To get a fuller effect of the verse you have to read above and below it. Above Paul talks about his past a little and how he would blaspheme and persecute Christians, verse 14 states, “The grace of our Lord was poured out on me abundantly, along with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.” Below he talks about glorying God in all he does now because of what Jesus did for him, stating in verse 16, “But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his immense patience as an example for those who would believe in him and receive eternal life.” The main focus of Paul’s message here to Timothy is God and his saving grace. God has the power to save anyone and everyone. His arm is not to short save, and his ear is not too dull to hear (Isa. 59:1). Paul also wrote in Romans, “For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile - the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call in him” (Rom. 10:12). God does not discriminate, he does not care where you are from, he does not care about your past, he does not care if you did not believe him in the past or if you were a terrible person; what he cares about is that you end up calling for him and believing in him. God knows that we are all naturally born sinners, and that is the reason why he sent his son to die on the cross. We have ALL sinned and we will ALL continue to sin, “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Rom. 3:23). No sin is greater than the next, sin is sin no matter what. If you sin you are going against God, there is no difference whether you killed someone or you jut committed a petty crime; sin is sin and it is all against God. Paul humbly admitted that he is the worst sinner of all time, due to the fact that he blasphemed and killed Christians for fun. He did not know the glory of Jesus, until Jesus came to him and he realized that Jesus even died for him. Jesus died for the sinner, no matter how small the sin or how big the sin. You could just lie, Jesus died for you and you are forgiven. You could have killed hundreds of people, Jesus died for you and you are forgiven. Jesus does not see the severity of the sin, as long as you repent and believe with all your heart you are saved by Jesus’s glorious love. Today might be the day you accept Jesus into your life, or you might have already accepted him into your life, or you are still up in the air but remember Jesus loves you and forgives you.
Lord, I thank you. You are are a glorious amazing God. Your arm is not too short and your ear is not too dull to hear. I pray you continue to hear all our cries. Lift us up to you. Show us your grace and mercy for we are all sinners and all fall short of your glory. We do not deserve you, but you sent your son to save us from an eternal life in hell. Thank you for all you do, all the mercy, all the grace, all the things you have blessed us with, all the obstacles, all the difficulties, everything. Lord, I pray you continue to guide us through everything and continue to forgive us. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
