Daily Devotional: 3/26/2018
“just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Matthew 20:28.
As simple as it is, Jesus did not come to be served but to serve. He came to this world to be an example for us, he served everyone and anyone that came to him. In the end he performed the ultimate sacrifice and gave his life for us. He gave it in order for all our sins to be forgiven and in order for us to have an eternal life in heaven with him. Jesus never turned down a soul that asked for help with an open heart. This is something that I try to repeat on a daily basis, even if that person is not my favorite person at the moment. If someone needs help I will drop everything I am doing and help them, whether it be to sit there for hours and be a listening ear, or if they need the honest truth, or if they just need muscle help I will always try my best to spare my time for them. To close out the parable before this (The Parable of the Workers in the Vineyard: v. 1-16), Jesus says, “So the last will be first, and the first will be last.” It is fitting that both verses ended sections of their respectable sections because they fit together. People who are first in the world and do not humble themselves will be last to enter heaven, meanwhile the people that put themselves last and serve and help others will be first to enter the kingdom of God. Live and serve like Jesus. When you serve others you are serving God. Everyone around you is made in the image of God.
Lord, I thank you for sending your true and only son here in order to die for us. He was the ultimate servant, I pray we are able to use him as the perfect example for us. Allow our servitude be an light to someone’s day, allow it to help someone that needs it more than anything. Allow us to be the light in someone’s day.
